SAO PAULO (AP) – Two Brazilian nuns have captured global attention after an unexpected beatboxing and dance session during a Catholic television program. Sisters Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula, who are members of the “Copiosa Redenção” congregation, were discussing a vocational retreat on Brazil's Pai Eterno, also known as Eternal Father, TV channel when the spontaneous performance occurred.

While they were sharing insights about a song focusing on the theme of being called to the religious life, the sisters decided to stand up and showcase their talents. Their routine included singing, beatboxing, and energetic dance moves that drew the attention of the show’s presenter, Deacon Giovani Bastos. He joined Sister de Paula in the performance, creating a lively atmosphere that resonated with viewers. The captivating display has since gone viral, reaching millions of viewers both in Brazil and internationally on social media platforms.

Sister Marizele Cassiano, known for her beatboxing skills, expressed her surprise at the episode's widespread popularity. She remarked, “That moment was very spontaneous, because with Sister Marisa, if you start a beat, she will dance. And I’m used to singing, to beatboxing, so for us it was very simple, spontaneous and at the same time very surprising to see that it went viral even outside Brazil.” The sisters dedicate their lives to helping young people who struggle with drug addiction, emphasizing that music serves as a vital tool to reach out to those in need.

“Beatboxing, dancing, and the songs themselves are tools that God uses to reach the hearts of the people we work with. And it works! It’s beautiful to see,” Sister Marizele stated, highlighting the power of music in their ministry.

Despite Sister Marisa not having an Instagram account, Sister Marizele has seen her following soar to over 100,000 since the beatboxing video gained significant traction online. Apart from their musical endeavors, the sisters are also active vocation promoters, organizing retreats specifically designed for women who are considering a career in religious life.

This vibrant and heartfelt display of talent by Sisters Cassiano and de Paula not only showcases their passion for their faith and community but also reflects the innovative approaches many religious figures are embracing to connect with younger generations. Their unique blend of spirituality and contemporary expression through music has opened doors for dialogue and engagement within their community and beyond.
