Search and rescue teams have resumed their efforts in the area of Gairloch Road in Lansdowne Station following an unsuccessful attempt on Saturday. This weekend marks a significant milestone, as it has been one month since Lilly Sullivan, aged 6, and her 4-year-old brother Jack Sullivan were last seen in public. They were reported missing on May 2, 2025, from their home in the small community of Lansdowne Station in northeastern Nova Scotia.
The focus of the search has been concentrated around Gairloch Road and a nearby pipeline, where a boot print was previously discovered. Early in the search efforts, officials located a water bottle and several t-shirts, but the children’s parents confirmed that these items did not belong to Lilly and Jack. The ongoing investigation into the children's disappearance has seen over 50 individuals interviewed, including their stepfather, Daniel Martell, and other family members.
Initially, search efforts began on the morning of May 2 after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a 9-1-1 call reporting the children as missing. Over the following five days, more than 160 trained volunteers, alongside search dogs, helicopters, and drones, searched the immediate area diligently. However, as time passed, the search operations were scaled back by May 7, with RCMP stating there was little hope that the young siblings could survive in the woods for an extended period.
Despite the lack of evidence suggesting abduction, the RCMP maintains a cautious approach, stating that all missing persons cases are considered suspicious until otherwise determined by the ongoing investigation. As of June 1, the police reiterated their position, emphasizing the need for thorough investigation of the case. During this weekend's search, over 75 trained searchers from multiple rescue organizations, including Colchester County, Pictou County, East Hants, Halifax, Strait Area, Springhill, and Pugwash, are participating. The area being searched encompasses roughly six square kilometers, and the public is requested to steer clear of the search zones as the investigation continues.
In summary, as the search continues, the community remains hopeful for the safe return of Lilly and Jack Sullivan, while law enforcement works diligently to uncover any leads in this desperate search for the young children.
