This summer, the province of Nova Scotia is enhancing access to its cultural heritage by offering free and reduced admission for youth as part of the Canada Strong program. This initiative is designed to encourage families and young individuals to explore the diverse offerings of the province’s museums.
Dave Ritcey, the Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, emphasized the program's significance by stating, “This program opens the door for more families and young people to discover Nova Scotia.” He highlighted that the experiences available, ranging from seafaring and shipwrecks to striking art exhibitions and life in a 19th-century village, allow travelers to take a slower pace and appreciate the unique aspects of the province.
As of last Friday, children and young adults now qualify for free or reduced rates at all provincial museums and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Specifically, from June 20 until September 2, children aged 17 and under will enjoy free admission, while individuals aged 18 to 24 will benefit from a 50 percent discount on admission fees.
This initiative follows the recent announcement from the federal government regarding the Canada Strong Pass, aimed at facilitating exploration for residents throughout Canada. This strategic collaboration underscores a broader commitment to promoting cultural experiences and accessibility.
Moreover, the province has unveiled a new boat school at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
