"Halifax Jazz Festival: A Week of Free Music Fun!"

The Halifax Jazz Festival kicks off this week with a loaded lineup for local music lovers

The Halifax Jazz Festival is set to commence this week, attracting a diverse array of local music enthusiasts. Scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 15, this year's festival promises an impressive lineup that goes beyond traditional jazz genres.

Festival Artistic Director Andrew Jackson emphasizes the festival's expansive musical offerings. "At the core we have so much amazing jazz, but it’s really expansive," he stated. Jackson's objective is to curate a festival that caters to a variety of musical tastes, incorporating genres such as hip-hop and rock 'n' roll alongside the festival’s jazz roots.

This year's festival features an exciting roster of artists, including renowned acts like Big Boi from Outkast, indie rock artist St. Vincent, folk musician Iron & Wine, and the popular band The Decemberists. Each of these performers will contribute to the festival's rich and varied musical experience.

The festival venues are spread throughout the city, utilizing multiple stages to enhance accessibility and engagement. A significant addition this year is the Lighthouse Centre, which will provide another setting for performances. Other notable venues include Hydrostone Park and the Halifax Central Library, where attendees can also participate in various workshops designed to deepen their appreciation of music.

One of the standout features of the Halifax Jazz Festival is its commitment to inclusivity, as approximately 70 percent of the festival's events will be offered free of charge. This accessibility allows a broader audience to experience the diverse lineup and partake in the festival's vibrant atmosphere, reflecting the community's love for music.

The festival runs from Tuesday, July 15 through Sunday, July 20, promising to deliver a memorable week filled with captivating performances and cultural enrichment. Music lovers can look forward to a range of experiences that celebrate not just jazz, but a multitude of musical styles that resonate with various audiences.
