MEXICO CITY (AP) – A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning when a train collided with a double-deck bus in the town of Atlacomulco, located northwest of Mexico City. The collision resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals and left 45 others injured, as reported by local authorities.
The incident took place in an industrial area characterized by large warehouses and factories, according to the state of Mexico’s Civil Defense Agency. Officials are still working on-site to address the aftermath of the accident. Details on how the collision transpired have yet to be disclosed by the authorities.
Video footage circulating on social media provides a glimpse into the moments leading up to the crash. It shows the double-deck bus moving slowly through heavy traffic across the train tracks. Suddenly, a fast-moving train comes into view, colliding with the bus at its midpoint. The sheer momentum of the train forced the bus down the tracks, obscuring it from the camera's frame.
Notably, the area where the accident occurred lacked visible crossing gates or warning signals. As seen in another clip, traffic appeared to be advancing, with several cars crossing the tracks just moments before the catastrophic impact.
The aftermath of the collision revealed the extent of the damage to the bus, which was left at rest beside the tracks. A video captured the scene where the bus was missing its roof, and individuals could be seen on the top level as the train gradually slowed to a halt after the collision.
As the investigation into this devastating incident continues, local authorities are working diligently to gather more information and determine the precise circumstances that led to this tragic event.
