MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Priscilla has been observed strengthening slowly in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico as of early Sunday morning. According to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center, Priscilla has been classified as a "large tropical storm." The storm currently exhibits tropical storm-force winds that extend up to 140 miles (220 kilometers) from its center.

As of the latest reports, Priscilla has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (100 kph) and is located approximately 305 miles (495 kilometers) south-southwest of Cabo Corientes. The storm is moving in a northwest direction at a speed of 5 mph (7 kph). Due to the potential impact of Priscilla, a tropical storm watch has been issued for parts of the southwestern coast of Mexico, specifically from Punta San Telmo to Punta Mita. This means that tropical storm conditions are expected in the area on Sunday and Monday.

The anticipated rainfall from Priscilla could reach up to 6 inches (15 centimeters), raising concerns about life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along the coast. Meteorologists predict that Priscilla could reach hurricane status by Sunday night or early Monday, and it is expected to generally move parallel to the coastline in the coming days.

In addition to Priscilla, another tropical storm named Octave is also present in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico. Unlike Priscilla, Tropical Storm Octave is currently drifting far from shore, and no landfall is anticipated. Consequently, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect related to Octave at this time. Interestingly, Octave has seen a slight increase in maximum sustained winds, which have reached 70 mph (110 kph).
