The Halifax Mooseheads faced the Newfoundland Regiment on Saturday night at Scotiabank Centre, where they suffered a 4-2 defeat. This loss brings their season record to 7-4-0.
The game began with a bright moment for the Mooseheads when Caylen Blake found the back of the net at 9:34 in the first period. After receiving a precise pass from behind the Newfoundland net, Blake displayed skillful puck handling, deking goaltender Mikus Vecvanags, and successfully scoring with a backhand shot. Assists were credited to Amelio Santini and Carlos Händel, giving the Mooseheads an early lead.
The Newfoundland Regiment quickly responded, scoring two goals to take control of the game as the first period came to a close. Benjamin Veitch netted his second goal of the season, which equalized the score. Shortly after, the Regiment capitalized on a power play; Louis-François Bélanger capitalized on a loose puck in front of the crease and blasted it past Mooseheads’ goalie Owen Bresson, giving Newfoundland a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
As the game progressed into the final period, Blake Pilgrim-Edwards sealed the victory for the Newfoundland Regiment with an empty-net goal late in the third, allowing his team to secure the 4-2 win over Halifax.
Despite the disappointing outcome for the Mooseheads, Bresson was awarded first-star honors due to his remarkable effort in goal, recording 30 saves throughout the match. From the Regiment, forwards Liam Arsenault and Maddex Marmulak were acknowledged as the second and third stars of the game, respectively, for their strong performances.
