On Boxing Day at approximately 9:20 p.m., a man approached an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) outside the Cookville detachment, claiming to be an RCMP sergeant who had recently transferred from another province. The unidentified individual attempted to enter the detachment, but when the officer requested identification, the man stated that he did not possess any.

As police investigated the incident, they swiftly confirmed that there had been no recent personnel transfers to the Cookville detachment, and apart from on-duty officers, no one was expected to be present that day. Consequently, the officer arrested the individual for impersonating a peace officer. The accused was later identified as 43-year-old Christopher Allan MacLeod, a resident of Liverpool, Nova Scotia. He faced charges for personating a peace officer and breach of recognizance, and after a court appearance, he was released under specific conditions.

The situation escalated on January 1, when police responded to reports of a dump truck being stolen from a garage located on Devonshire Road in West Caledonia. As officers were en route to the location where the theft occurred, they spotted the stolen dump truck traveling along Highway 3 in Liverpool.

Law enforcement initiated a traffic stop and apprehended the driver, who was confirmed to be Christopher MacLeod. Investigations revealed that MacLeod had entered the garage on December 31 and spent the night there before making off with the truck the following day.

As a result of these events, MacLeod now faces several additional charges, which include break and enter with intent, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained through crime, and failure to comply with judicial orders.

The series of incidents underscores the seriousness of impersonating a police officer and engaging in theft.
