"Mooseheads Fall to Tigres in Nail-Biting Finale"

The Halifax Mooseheads’ third Quebec road trip of the season continued Saturday evening as they faced the Victoriaville Tigres for the second time this season

The Halifax Mooseheads embarked on their third Quebec road trip of the season, continuing their journey with a game against the Victoriaville Tigres on Saturday evening. This matchup marked the second encounter of the season between the two teams, with the Mooseheads previously securing a 4-2 victory in their first meeting on Wednesday, October 15, thanks to a stellar performance from goaltender Owen Bresson and a two-point contribution from Liam Kilfoil.

The game kicked off with an early advantage for Halifax as Samuel Rousseau scored the opening goal at 14:11 of the first period. Rousseau received a pass from Shawn Carrier behind the Victoriaville net, skillfully maneuvering around netminder Gabriel D'Aigle before executing a backhand shot into the goal. However, the lead was short-lived as Loïk Gariépy equalized for the Tigres at 16:51, netting his 10th goal of the season.

In the second period, Halifax regained the lead at 4:53 during a power play. Rousseau deflected a high shot from Carrier into the Tigres' net, but the goal was briefly subject to review. Officials ultimately upheld the goal, ruling that there was no high stick involved. Victoriaville was quick to respond, tying the game again at 8:36. Brayden Besner made a strong play from the left wing, setting up Egor Shilov, who unleashed a shot that marked his 23rd goal of the season.

The Mooseheads had a golden opportunity to take control of the game with a 5-on-3 power-play situation at 13:09, following a roughing penalty against Simon-Pier Brunet and a slashing call on Alexey Vlasov. However, the Tigres showcased a resilient penalty kill, successfully keeping the score tied as the game headed into the final period.

In the third period, at 12:19, Brunet scored for Victoriaville, giving them their first lead of the night. In a last-ditch effort to tie the game, Halifax pulled Bresson for an extra attacker at 18:04, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to convert, resulting in a 3-2 victory for the Tigres.

This loss brought the Mooseheads' season record to 20 wins, 20 losses, 3 overtime losses, and 2 shootout losses (20-20-3-2). Individual performances were highlighted, as Brunet earned the game’s first star accolade for scoring the winning goal. D'Aigle was acknowledged as the second star for his impressive 34-save performance, while Rousseau received the third star nod for his contributions to the Mooseheads’ efforts.

Looking ahead, the Mooseheads are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, February 1, for the final game of their Quebec road trip. They will face the Sherbrooke Phoenix at the Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet, with the puck drop set for 4 p.m. Fans can tune in to all the action live on 95.7 NewsRadio with announcer Garreth MacDonald providing coverage.
