The Kean family has had significant political representation, with Kean Jr.'s great-grandfather serving as a senator, his grandfather as a congressman, and his father as a governor. However, this impressive political pedigree may not shield Kean from the impending challenges of the midterm elections, as he finds himself among the most vulnerable Republicans in a year when Democrats are aiming to leverage President Donald Trump’s low approval ratings to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Currently representing New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District—a diverse area encompassing suburban communities and farming towns—Kean is on the frontline of a political battleground that has seen considerable shifts in voter allegiance. In recent midterms, Kean secured his position by defeating Democrat Tom Malinowski in 2022, following Malinowski’s victory over Republican Leonard Lance in 2018. As the current election cycle progresses, Kean is acutely aware of his district's competitive nature.
