Tragically Hip and Feist Join Canadian Songwriters Hall

TORONTO — Beloved rockers the Tragically Hip and acclaimed singer-songwriter Feist are among the latest artists set to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame

TORONTO – The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the latest batch of inductees, which include the beloved rock band the Tragically Hip and the acclaimed singer-songwriter Feist. This celebration will take place at a ceremony scheduled for September 26, 2026, with details regarding performers and special guests to be disclosed later.

Other notable inductees this year include Mike Reno and Paul Dean of the rock band Loverboy, as well as bilingual artist Roch Voisine. Each of these musicians has made substantial contributions to the Canadian music scene and is recognized for their enduring impact on the industry.

The Tragically Hip, known for their unique sound and thoughtful lyrics, played a significant role in shaping the modern Canadian identity. Hit songs like "Ahead By A Century" and "Bobcaygeon" have become anthems for many Canadians. The band’s lead singer, Gord Downie, passed away in 2017 after battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. In a heartfelt statement, the band expressed both their gratitude for the honor and the bittersweet feeling of recognizing Downie's absence during this momentous occasion.

Feist gained international fame with her 2007 album "The Reminder," which featured the widely popular track "1234." Her artistry has been acknowledged through multiple awards, including the Polaris Music Prize, which she received for her 2011 album "Metals." Feist's musical style, characterized by introspective lyrics and melodic compositions, has won her a devoted fan base around the globe.

Additionally, Loverboy is credited with defining the sounds of 1980s arena rock, creating iconic tracks such as "Working for the Weekend" and "Turn Me Loose." Their energetic performances and catchy melodies solidified their place in rock history. Meanwhile, Roch Voisine has achieved global popularity with his romantic ballads, particularly "Hélène." As one of Canada’s most successful bilingual artists, Voisine has garnered acclaim not only in Canada but also in French-speaking regions around the world.

The Tragically Hip's statement poignantly highlighted the emotional weight of this induction, stating that while they are honored to receive such recognition, it is “bittersweet” knowing that Gord Downie will not be standing alongside them to celebrate this milestone. They emphasized that Downie is “well loved and missed” by both the band members and their fans every day.

Overall, the induction of these talented artists into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame reflects the importance of music in shaping cultural identity and legacy. This ongoing celebration of Canadian talent highlights the rich tapestry of artistry that continues to thrive in the nation's music scene.
