BOSTON BAR A devastating wildfire complex near Boston Bar, British Columbia, has significantly expanded, now covering nearly 200 square kilometers. The ongoing situation has led to the destruction of multiple buildings, although reports indicate that the main lodge of Blue Lake Resort has managed to survive the flames.
In response to the escalating danger, the Fraser Valley Regional District has elevated its evacuation alert to an official order requiring approximately 40 properties to evacuate the area immediately. Simultaneously, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for around 61 properties located near Prospect Creek, advising residents to prepare for a swift departure if necessary.
The current wildfire crisis in the Fraser Canyon area has already affected hundreds of properties, which remain under various evacuation orders and alerts. The two primary wildfires, identified as the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek fires, are raging uncontrollably on both sides of the Fraser River.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the Ainslie Creek fire has expanded to an alarming size of 170 square kilometers, with the Brunswick Creek fire measuring at 26 square kilometers. The cumulative area of these two fires, collectively known as the Brunswick Complex, has surged by 72 percent from the previously reported 114 square kilometers on Wednesday, reflecting the rapidly deteriorating conditions.
As the fires continue to spread, Highway 1 in the region remains closed to ensure public safety. Firefighting crews have noted that strong winds have exacerbated the growth of the wildfires over the past two days. Forecasts indicate that further gusty winds are expected in the upcoming days, with little to no significant rain predicted in the short-term.
