On August 22, around 10:18 p.m., Halifax firefighters responded to multiple alerts triggered by smoke detectors in an apartment building located on Cole Harbour Road. Initially, a smoke detector on the third floor signaled the presence of smoke, prompting an upgrade of the incident to a second alarm. This upgrade resulted in the dispatch of additional firefighting personnel to the scene.
Upon entering the building, firefighters quickly located the source of the fire within one of the apartment rooms. During their search, they discovered a resident trapped inside, who was suffering from smoke inhalation. The firefighters promptly evacuated the building, ensuring the safety of the remaining residents, and the affected individual was handed over to paramedics for medical assistance.
Fire crews worked efficiently to bring the fire under control, while additional firefighters conducted thorough searches of the affected apartment as well as neighboring units to ensure no one else was trapped. Once the fire was extinguished, crews continued their efforts by clearing out the residual smoke that had filled the building, making it safe for re-entry.
