MONTREAL – The French-Canadian dubbed version of The Simpsons has been preserved following a new partnership between Bell Media and Disney Entertainment, ensuring the popular series continues to reach its Québécois audience. This agreement enables the airing of season 36 of Les Simpson on Bell Media's Noovo television channel, with streaming options available on Crave.
The decision comes after significant public outcry when Corus Entertainment, a competitor of Bell Media, opted not to renew the broadcast rights last year. This decision left many French-speaking viewers in Quebec with no option but to watch new episodes in European French, which sparked a backlash among fans. An online petition urging the continuation of the Québécois version amassed thousands of signatures, highlighting the community’s strong desire to maintain a localized viewing experience.
In a special announcement shared via Noovo's social media platforms, beloved characters Bart and Lisa Simpson delivered the exciting news in the cherished Québécois French voices that resonate with local fans. This familiarity not only underscores the cultural significance of the dubbed series but also connects the audience to localized references such as place names, politicians, and contemporary events that have characterized the show for over three decades.
It’s noteworthy that the Québécois versions of the show currently trail the American series by one year, with the latter entering its 37th season in September. Meanwhile, all previous seasons (from one through 35) of Les Simpson are accessible for streaming on Disney+, providing fans with an extensive library of past episodes.
This development represents a positive outcome for fans of The Simpsons in Quebec, as the revival of its Québécois dubbing preserves a vital aspect of their cultural identity. With the impending release of season 36, viewers can eagerly anticipate more adventures of the Simpson family as they continue to navigate life in Springfield, albeit with a distinctly local twist.
