The province of Nova Scotia has officially added the murder of 28-year-old Jayden Tynes in North Preston to its major unsolved crimes reward program. This decision comes nearly a year after Tynes was fatally shot in November, under circumstances that remain unclear. His case highlights ongoing community concerns regarding gun violence and public safety.
On the day of the incident, local police responded to reports of shots fired on Cain Street in North Preston. Upon arrival, they found Tynes receiving medical assistance from several bystanders. He was subsequently transported to a hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
The provincial government, recognizing that there are likely individuals with vital information regarding Tynes’ death who have not yet come forward, has taken steps to encourage the public to assist the ongoing investigation. Scott Armstrong, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, emphasized the importance of citizens speaking out. He stated, “If you know anything that hasn’t already been shared with police and could help with their investigation and lead to justice for Mr. Tynes and his family, I encourage you to speak up. Even details that seem insignificant could be the crucial evidence that police are missing.”
In an effort to further incentivize information sharing, the province has announced a reward of up to $150,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Tynes’ murder. This substantial reward underscores the seriousness with which the government is treating the case and the urgency behind resolving it.
The investigation into Tynes’ murder is being led by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and they are focusing on the area around Cain and Clarence streets, which has become a central point of inquiry in the case.
